Footworks Dance Team (FDT) is a group of dedicated dancers who strive for excellence in dance, performance, and teamwork. Placement on the team is by audition only and is open to ages 5 to 18.
FDT dancers have won many prestigious regional and national competition awards. They have been nominated for 10 Industry Dance Awards and hold many first place and special judges awards. In 2019, Footworks Dance Studio was awarded with the ADCC Dance Studio Excellence Award. Our team dancers have also won many convention scholarships, including NRG Prodigies, and have even been invited to assist national conventions.
Team Members are a part of an amazing dance family and learn how to support and encourage one another. They have the chance to be a part of something bigger than themselves, while receiving individualized training and attention. Between their rehearsals, technique classes, teaching assistant opportunities, competitions, and conventions; our dancers learn skills that prepare them for success in every area of their lives.
The Benefits of Competition
If your child loves dance and has expressed interest in doing more, we’d love for you to consider having them audition for our competition teams in May! All of our FDT members benefit from the life skills dance develops, but for our competition teams, those advantages go even deeper. Our competition team students are held to a high standard when it comes to making the commitment to join. Sometimes they have to make sacrifices, like attending a rehearsal instead of a social event. Their commitment grows their dependability, and the team bonds grow stronger because of this.
This emphasis on teamwork helps each student see that they have an important role to fill. Working together, the dancers improve their communication skills—a benefit that will multiply many times over as they mature. And through their shared performance experience, the team learns what it means to promote excellent sportsmanship. Whether they are congratulating another team on their hard work or winning a top award themselves, our students are learning how to be genuinely gracious to others.
Expectations for Team Members
Team participation requires time, energy, commitment and dedication. The time commitment required depends on age level. The competitive level will compete in 4 - 5 competitions per season. All dancers are leveled into weekly classes based on age and technical ability.
Being on the Footworks Dance Team requires commitment, dedication, responsibility, passion, and teamwork while striving to improve their dance ability.
Footworks Dance Team members:
- Must be self-motivated and able to self-evaluate;
- Must have solid technical and performance skills;
- Must have a strong desire to grow and develop as a dancer;
- Must have a sense of humor, bright smile, and positive attitude;
- Must show support for the studio, teachers, and fellow dancers;
- Must have a supportive family base showing respect for teachers and students.
